We recently spoke with Alysa Maria Medina, a mother of four whose husband has been undocumented for 21 years. A citizen herself, Alysa describes the hardship her family faces due to the complex and broken immigration system.

Our interview with Alysa, published on PolicyMic, documents the plight of mixed status families and the burden Alysa would face if her husband were to return to Mexico and file his citizenship paperwork which imposes a mandatory 3-10 ban from re-entering the US.

So, they have two options: being separated by the imposed ban for up to a decade, or her husband remaining undocumented.
